Welcome to Eliza's Homepage
This site is a brief introduction to my life, both personal and professional. Obviously my resume reflects my professional life, as does that page on my coursework and other experience. The photos page will give you a glimpse into my personal life.
About Me
I've lived in Northern Virginia for about three years. Before that I lived and attended school in Williamsburg, Virginia. Prior to that, I grew up in the Shenandoah Valley. At some point in the future, I would like to live somewhere a little less humid--actually, a lot less humid.
I have a cat, who is probably the most important person in my life. Through my mother, I feel like I've always been involved in some endeavor to help find homes and improve the quality of life for cats, dogs, and whatever other creature crossed our path. My mother works with a group called Cat's Cradle, who I used to volunteer with fairly regularly. While I don't do that anymore, I do support the work they and similar groups do.
In my free time I like to read. I also enjoy being outside (when it's not too hot and humid!) and attending different festivals and events. Recently I went to the Waterfront Festival benefitting the Red Cross in Old Town Alexandria. You can check out some pictures from that on the photos page.
Professional Life
I've worked for APICS--The Association for Operations Management for a little more than two years now. We publish our own educational materials for certification and continuing education in the field of operations management. When I started there, the organization was called APICS, The Educational Society for Resource Management. While we are still very focused on providing educational opportunities for our members, the name change and associated re-branding has allowed us to expand our presence in the market. We are currently working to develop alliances with members in the service industry, whereas before our focus was primarily manufacturing. This, of course, provides me with many exciting new opportunities to develop new instructional materials focused on this segment.
